Whoa!!! That's completely new to me. Egg in coffee?! Strange, but I'd be willing to give it a try. Hey if other cultures enjoy it, why would I right?

I am from Minnesota too and I remember old duffers making this when I was a kid on walleye fishing and deer hunting trips. It was something I never saw made at home, but up in the north woods somewhere.

At first an egg in the coffee sounds a little crazy (almost as crazy as cheese dipped in coffee;)), but after watching the video, it makes perfect sense. I'm not a coffee drinker but perhaps I'll try making this for my caffeine loving hubby one day. Also would be fun to make for guests!

How interesting! I have never had an egg coffee, adding the egg shells is a neat idea too. I'm looking forward to trying it, thanks for sharing the recipe!

I have heard of egg shells being put inside the coffee pot, but never the contents of the egg itself. How interesting! Some wine-makers use egg whites to clarify their wines, so I can see how egg might also help mellow the bitterness of coffee. I'll have to give this a whirl to see if there really is a difference.

Sophie - thanks for the kind words and the award, what an honor.

Erica - glad you liked it.

Lisa - Its funny, I raised the idea on a food and culture site I'm also involved with and a few folks said, they were so accustomed to it that they did not realize it was unique until I raised the question. Funny how you get so close to something, its nice to take a step back.

Zerrin - thanks! Yes, I like my coffee and I like my eggs, but not often mixed together.

Gastro - I'd be curious as to what your MIL has to say

Lisa - I think your right, plus the added bonus of reducing acidity in the coffee.
